Chocolate bars sold across the United States are being recalled after routine testing raised concerns about possible salmonella contamination, US health authorities have confirmed.

FDA announces recall of specific chocolate batch

The recall involves certain Mint Leaf Date-Sweetened Chocolate Bars produced by Spring & Mulberry, a Raleigh, North Carolina–based brand. The action was announced by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Monday.

According to officials, the recall applies specifically to lot number 025255 of the 2.1-ounce bars. These products have been sold online and through select retailers nationwide since September 15, 2025. The affected bars are packaged in teal-coloured wrappers, with the lot number printed on both the outer box and the inner wrapper.

No illnesses reported so far

Spring & Mulberry said the recall was initiated as a precautionary measure after a third-party laboratory flagged potential contamination during routine testing. The company stressed that no illnesses linked to the product have been reported so far.

“Spring & Mulberry is proactively recalling the specific lot in which this risk applies to protect public health,” the company said in a statement.

Why salmonella is a concern

Salmonella infections can cause serious illness, particularly among young children, the elderly, pregnant women and individuals with weakened immune systems. Common symptoms include fever, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

In rare cases, the bacteria can enter the bloodstream and lead to severe complications such as arterial infections, heart inflammation and joint infections, health officials warned.

What consumers should do

Consumers who have purchased the affected chocolate bars are advised not to consume them and to dispose of the product immediately. Refunds are being offered, and customers can contact Spring & Mulberry via email for further assistance, according to the FDA.

Part of wider recall trend

The chocolate recall comes amid a series of recent food safety alerts in the US, including recalls involving cheese products linked to listeria and frozen foods suspected of plastic contamination. Authorities have urged consumers to stay alert to recall notices to reduce health risks.
