As of the latest update, Haveri district has reported a total of 499 cases of dengue fever this season, with 489 individuals having recovered. Tragically, one death has been confirmed due to dengue, and another death is suspected to be related to the disease. Currently, eight cases remain active in the district.
This year, the onset of dengue cases was unusually early, starting from June. Among those affected, a significant number—337 cases—were children below the age of 16. The first reported fatality was Savin Kannanavar, a 10-year-old from Tadas village in Byadagi taluk, who passed away on April 23.
Health authorities have emphasized preventive measures, urging the public to stay well-hydrated, avoid self-medication, and undergo blood tests before seeking hospitalization. According to medical sources, treatment has been administered across various hospitals in the region, including Haveri District Hospital, KIMS Hubballi, Manipal Hospital, Sirsi Private Hospital, and McGann Hospital in Shivamogga.
Dr. Jayanand, the District Health Officer in charge, reassured the public that while vigilance is necessary, there is no cause for panic regarding dengue. He highlighted that platelet transfusion is only recommended when platelet counts drop below 10,000.
In response to the outbreak, Vijayamahantesh Danammanavar, Deputy Commissioner of Haveri, has directed authorities to implement precautionary measures, including the provision of additional bed facilities at district hospitals to accommodate patients requiring treatment for dengue fever.
