Roorkee – Gadharona, a village near Landaura town, has seen a surge in Hepatitis C cases, locally known as Kala Pilia, over the past two months. More than 100 cases have been reported, prompting health officials to intervene. A two-day medical camp conducted by the health department collected 75 samples from suspected patients, with 54 testing positive.

Despite the rising numbers, authorities have reassured that the disease is treatable and the situation is under control. In the past three months, Roorkee Civil Hospital registered 450 cases of Hepatitis C from the region.

Villagers initially sought treatment from local healers but turned to hospitals when symptoms like mild fever, loss of appetite, and fatigue persisted. Village head Satendra Giri raised concerns after noticing multiple cases per household, leading to the medical camps.

One patient, Pradeep Giri (40), shared his experience: “I suffered from extreme fatigue and loss of appetite. After testing positive, I was prescribed a three-month medication course, with weekly supplies provided by the Civil Hospital.”

According to CMO Dr. R.K. Singh, Hepatitis C spreads through blood transmission, unprotected sex, and sometimes genetically, but it is entirely curable. Patients are advised to avoid alcohol and oily foods during treatment. Officials maintain that the outbreak in Gadharona is under control, with infected individuals responding well to medication.
