The Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital in Hyderabad reported receiving 48 individuals with eye injuries linked to Diwali firecrackers, according to a hospital official on Friday. Out of these, eight patients were admitted, while the remaining 40 received prescriptions for medication and were advised to return for follow-up care.
Among the admitted patients, there are three children and five adults. Fortunately, none of the injuries were severe enough to threaten their vision. Hospital Superintendent Modini Pandharpurkar mentioned that the hospital anticipates an influx of patients as Diwali celebrations continue over the weekend, assuring that they are well-prepared to handle the situation.
She urged parents to closely monitor their children while they handle firecrackers and advised young people against engaging in reckless behavior, such as lighting firecrackers in their hands. The hospital’s proactive stance emphasizes the importance of safety during the festive season.
