Reddit user claims ChatGPT saved their life by diagnosing rare kidney condition

A Reddit user, under the handle ‘Ananymous717,’ has shared a remarkable story of how ChatGPT potentially saved their life by diagnosing a rare kidney-threatening condition before doctors could. The user, who had experienced unusual symptoms after a workout, sought advice from the AI chatbot when traditional methods failed to offer answers.

After engaging with ChatGPT and explaining symptoms like muscle pain, fatigue, and dehydration following basic exercises and high caffeine intake, the chatbot suggested the user might have “moderate to severe Rhabdomyolysis.” This condition, which involves the breakdown of muscle tissue and the release of proteins that can damage the kidneys, was confirmed later at a hospital after the user followed ChatGPT’s recommendation to seek immediate medical attention.

The user spent a week in the hospital receiving critical care, grateful for the chatbot’s timely intervention. The post, which has gone viral, sparked discussions about the growing role of AI in healthcare, though many emphasized the importance of combining such tools with professional medical advice to avoid risks associated with self-diagnosis.

Several users shared similar experiences of AI providing useful health insights, though others cautioned against relying solely on AI without consulting healthcare professionals.
