A tragic incident occurred at Daksha PU College when 17-year-old H.V. Jaya Prarthana, a Second PUC student, passed away at a hospital on Monday morning. Jaya Prarthana, who was staying at the college hostel, began experiencing vomiting symptoms around 3 pm on Sunday. She was initially taken to Adarsha Hospital in Hootagalli by the hostel warden and nurse, but was later returned to the hostel. Her condition worsened by midnight, prompting a transfer to Pralaksha Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 5:15 am.
Her grieving parents, K. Venkatesh and family from Nagamangala, were shocked to find out about her death only after arriving at the Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI) mortuary. They accused the college staff of negligence for not informing them about her deteriorating health, which they believe led to her death. In response, Vijayanagar Police Inspector Suresh Kumar has filed a case of Unnatural Death.
Following the incident, students at Daksha PU College staged a protest, accusing the hostel management of mismanagement and negligence, despite having paid a separate medical fee of Rs. 10,000. They claimed that the warden did not visit Jaya Prarthana during her illness and criticized the college for failing to address previous food poisoning incidents.
The college principal, S. Rathnakar, stated that Jaya Prarthana had existing health issues upon admission, which were not disclosed by her parents. He explained that immediate medical attention was provided, but her condition worsened overnight, leading to her unfortunate death.
