Differently-abled individuals are not a societal burden but possess incredible talents that, with encouragement, can lead to remarkable achievements,” said Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, bishop of Udupi diocese, at the Divyanga Mahotsava held at Anugraha Pastoral Centre, Kakkunje, on March 9.

He highlighted Pope Francis’ call to empower those with physical disabilities and stressed diocesan efforts to provide quality education and access to welfare schemes, enabling them to live with dignity.

MCC Bank president Anil Lobo urged the public to replace sympathy with opportunities, emphasizing that many talents remain hidden due to financial and social barriers. He assured MCC Bank’s continued support.

A heartwarming moment saw differently-abled individuals honoring Bishop Lobo on his 75th birthday and 25 years of service. Participants were felicitated with shawls and tokens of appreciation.

The event featured vibrant cultural performances by Maanasa Special School students and Thottam Church youth, while Fr Denis D’Sa captivated the audience with soulful singing.

Dignitaries present included Esther D’Souza, Fr Vincent Crasta, Fr Roshan D’Souza, Sister Vinny, Dr Edward Lobo, Fr Cyril Lobo, and Fr Alwyn. Leslie Aroza, director of the Family Commission, anchored the event.
