In a concerning development, the Zika virus has been detected in Bengaluru’s Jigani area within Anekal taluk, adding to the city’s health challenges following recent dengue outbreaks. Over the past two weeks, five Zika cases have been confirmed, raising alarm among residents.
The Health Department has taken immediate action by collecting blood samples from those affected and their family members for analysis. To date, the state has reported seven Zika cases. The affected areas are being designated as containment zones, and the department is implementing necessary measures to control the spread.
Zika virus is transmitted through the bite of Aedes mosquitoes. Symptoms include severe headaches, red eyes, fever, and body rashes. Individuals experiencing these symptoms are advised to visit a health center promptly. Family members of confirmed cases are required to undergo blood tests, and testing is mandatory for those within a 3-km radius of the affected areas, with a 1-km radius being treated as a containment zone.
The Health Department reassures the public not to panic but to adhere to preventive measures to curb the virus’s spread.
