Heavy Rains Cause Havoc in Bengaluru, Civic Body on Alert
Bengaluru continued to face heavy rainfall on Wednesday, flooding several areas and keeping civic authorities and traffic personnel busy. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and disaster response teams worked tirelessly to clear waterlogged streets and manage the vehicular congestion caused by the downpour. Several areas, including Silver County Road and Kendriya Vihar in Yelahanka, were badly affected, prompting rescue operations.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar assured the public that the government is equipped to handle the situation. Meanwhile, several trains were canceled due to waterlogging, and Bengaluru Metro services briefly halted due to tree obstructions on the Purple Line.
Many schools and offices remained closed, with IT and biotech companies allowing employees to work from home. Viral videos showed Manyata Tech Park inundated, with water gushing down walls like a waterfall.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts more heavy rainfall in Bengaluru and surrounding districts until October 18, with overcast conditions likely to persist for the next few days.
