MYSURU: Two teams from the Forest Mobile Squad (FMS), headed by DCF Chandrashekhara Gowda Patil, carried out surprise raids at four silk and handicrafts showrooms across the city. During the operation, officials confiscated sandalwood and red sandalwood logs, along with their powdered forms.
Shopkeepers were sternly cautioned that stocking or selling these items without permission is a legal violation. Cases have been booked against the offending stores under the Karnataka Forest Act, 1963, and Karnataka Forest Rules, 1969.
The forest department has urged citizens to purchase sandalwood products only from the official outlet at Ashokapuram, as no private store in Mysuru holds authorization to sell them.
