Police in Maharashtra’s Thane district have filed charges against 12 individuals, including seven identified suspects, for allegedly kidnapping an 18-year-old girl and coercing her into marriage. According to the complainant, she was initially taken to Navsari in Gujarat under the guise of visiting a temple, before being transported to a relative’s home in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
The teenager reported to the Kalwa police that her relatives forcibly married her to one of the accused. A case has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with charges of kidnapping, criminal intimidation, and wrongful confinement. So far, seven of the suspects have been identified, and authorities continue to investigate the matter.
