A 13-year-old boy named Rohith was found dead in a forested area near Anchetty in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district on Thursday, July 3, 2025 — a day after he disappeared, triggering widespread anger among villagers. His body was discovered after police questioned two men who were the last to be seen with him.

Rohith, a Class 8 student from Mavanatti village, had gone out to play on Wednesday. During that time, he encountered two 21-year-old men, both named Madevan — one from his village and the other from a neighbouring one. According to police, the duo took him for a ride in a car and later killed him.

P. Thangadurai, Superintendent of Police, stated that the accused confessed they killed Rohith because he saw one of them speaking to a girl from the village and threatened to expose the interaction. “While this is the claim, we are still investigating the exact motive,” he said. The suspects drove around with Rohith for three hours before allegedly suffocating him in a secluded forest area in Thiruottu Keezhpallam.

Early Thursday morning, Rohith’s relatives blocked the road in protest, accusing the police of delayed action. The family claimed they had alerted authorities by 8 p.m. the previous evening but received no timely help. Even as the accused were being questioned at the station, they denied knowing Rohith’s whereabouts.

Tensions rose until evening, when the body was finally sent for post-mortem.
