NAMAKKAL: In a major crackdown on illegal sex trade, at least 18 women were rescued from prostitution rackets operating under the guise of wellness services in Namakkal town, police said on Saturday.

The raids were conducted on Friday by multiple police teams targeting several spa centres and massage parlours across the town. According to a police press note, four establishments were found to be covertly running prostitution operations under the pretext of offering massage services.

As part of the operation, 18 women were rescued and provided shelter, while four managers involved in the illicit activities were arrested.

“This coordinated action is part of an ongoing effort to clamp down on illegal commercial sexual activities disguised as wellness and massage services,” the statement added.

Police have intensified surveillance on such establishments in the district, with further inquiries underway.
