An 18-year-old student from Arsikere taluk in Hassan district tragically died by suicide on Tuesday, reportedly distressed over his performance in the II PUC examinations.
The young man, identified as Manoj, was enrolled at Ananth International PU School in Arsikere town. Despite scoring 474 marks, he was believed to be deeply disappointed, as he had anticipated securing higher marks. His dismay over the outcome may have pushed him to take the irreversible step.
Relatives mentioned that Manoj had shown signs of sadness and dissatisfaction after the results were declared. According to them, he had set high expectations for himself and was unable to come to terms with the score he received. The pressure he placed on his own performance seems to have overwhelmed him emotionally.
At the time of the incident, both his parents—father Prakash and mother—were away from home. When they returned, they found him unresponsive. The community has been left in shock, grappling with the loss of a bright student whose life ended far too soon.
This heartbreaking episode has once again drawn attention to the immense stress and emotional burden faced by students, especially around examination results. Mental health support and parental communication remain crucial in preventing such tragedies.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, while counseling support is being offered to students at the school.
Let this be a wake-up call to treat emotional wellbeing with as much importance as academic performance.
