An 18-year-old girl, identified as Navya, was viciously attacked by a pack of stray dogs while taking an evening walk in Alwar, Rajasthan, on March 7. The disturbing incident was captured on CCTV, showing Navya being surrounded and bitten by at least ten stray dogs in the JK Nagar area around 5:45 pm.
In the viral footage, Navya is heard screaming in panic as the dogs dragged her to the ground and continued to bite her at least eight times. While the girl was talking on the phone, the dogs rushed towards her, and despite her attempts to push them away, they attacked from all directions. A passerby on a two-wheeler, with help from local residents, was eventually able to drive the dogs away, but not before they had caused significant distress to the girl.
Navya, still in shock, described the attack, saying, “They surrounded me from all sides. I tried to push them away, but they started pulling me down from the front and back. I fell to the ground, and they kept attacking me.”
Local councillor Hetram Yadav has raised concerns over the growing stray dog menace, stating that multiple complaints have been filed with the municipal corporation without any response or action. He warned that if the issue isn’t addressed soon, more serious incidents are likely to occur.
This attack follows a series of similar incidents in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich, where in the past 10 days, one child has died, and 14 people have been injured in dog attacks. Authorities have been forced to issue advisories, warning residents to stay cautious, especially in the evening, and to carry sticks for self-defense.
The alarming rise in stray dog attacks has sparked a wider debate about municipal responsibility and the safety of citizens in areas plagued by this issue.
