Excerpt: New Delhi: Twenty-one personnel of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) have been honoured with the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) and Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) on the occasion of Independence Day.
The recognition is part of a wider announcement honouring 1,057 personnel from the police, fire services, Home Guard and Civil Defence, and correctional services for gallantry and dedicated service.
Six CBI personnel receive top honour
Six CBI personnel have received the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service. They include Assistant Sub-Inspectors Ramesh Chand and Madan Lal Dhiman, Assistant Inspector Shobha Dutta, Additional Superintendent of Police Manoj Banerjee, Ginni Rana and Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Samal.
The distinguished service medal recognises personnel with a special and distinguished record of service.
Fifteen receive meritorious service medals
Fifteen other CBI personnel have been awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service. The recipients include Deputy Legal Adviser Brijesh Singh, Senior System Analyst Girish Joshi, Deputy Superintendents of Police Manoj Kumar, Om Prakash Chandra, Zahir Akhtar Ansari and Ashish Anand, among others.
Their recognition reflects valuable service, resourcefulness and devotion to duty across different areas of CBI operations.
Over 1,000 personnel honoured
The Centre has announced 301 Gallantry Medals this Independence Day, including 272 for police personnel and 29 for fire service personnel. As many as 197 recipients served in Left Wing Extremism-affected areas, while 51 were from Jammu and Kashmir, 12 from the North-East and 41 from other regions.
A further 92 personnel have received the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, while 664 have been awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service.
The honours recognise courage, commitment and public service, acknowledging personnel who work in challenging circumstances to protect lives, maintain law and order and serve communities.
