A 22-year-old man allegedly died by suicide in the Bingawan area under the jurisdiction of Sen Paschimpara Police Station on Saturday, following a reported argument with his girlfriend, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Vishal Verma. According to family members, he was alone at home when the incident occurred. His father, Raju Paswan, a farmer, told police that he had stepped out to purchase medicines for his wife, while Vishal’s siblings were either at work or in the fields.

Obscene video allegedly posted

Family members informed police that before taking the extreme step, Vishal allegedly uploaded an obscene video of his girlfriend on Instagram and later deleted it. They also stated that he smashed his mobile phone shortly before his death.

When his sister Arushi returned home later in the evening, she reportedly found him hanging from a roof beam (‘dhanni’). The broken mobile phone was found lying on the ground.

Police and a forensic team examined the scene and sent the body for post-mortem. Officials said preliminary findings indicate that the act followed a heated phone argument.

Marriage proposal reportedly declined

According to the family, Vishal was in a relationship with a young woman from a neighbouring village. They claimed that when they approached her family with a marriage proposal, it was refused. On Saturday, a heated exchange allegedly took place between the couple over the phone.

Station in-charge Pradeep Singh said that the youth appeared to have taken the step following a personal dispute. “If the family members file a written complaint, investigation and action will be taken,” he added.

Authorities have urged families to seek counselling and support in cases of emotional distress.
