59th Prabhu Yeshu Janmotsav celebrates Christmas unity and peace

On December 8, 2024, over 25,000 Christians gathered at Girgaum Chowpatty in Mumbai for the 59th Prabhu Yeshu Janmotsav, marking India’s largest Christmas celebration. This event, which has been a yearly tradition for six decades, commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ and spreads His message of love, peace, and unity.

The event began 59 years ago, spearheaded by Tara Cherian, the then Lady Governor, and has since become a significant occasion for the Christian community. It was attended by prominent figures like Cardinal Oswald Gracias, Bishops, and leaders including Justice K.K. Tated, Shri Nitin Patil, and MLAs Ashish Shelar and Rahul Narvekar.

Dr. Abraham Mathai, Chairman of PYJ, spoke of the enduring strength of the Church, highlighting its resilience through centuries of persecution. He emphasized that despite suffering and opposition, the Church has stood tall for over 2,000 years, continuing to thrive across the world.

This year’s message of unity, compassion, and hope resonated deeply. Dr. Mathai stressed the importance of collective action in a world filled with conflict and pain. He called on Christians to act as peacemakers and agents of reconciliation, spreading love and goodwill.

As the celebration came to a close, the spirit of Christmas inspired all to contribute to a world filled with compassion and harmony.
