An eight-year-old boy, S. Sanjeev, tragically passed away on Friday morning after reportedly consuming biryani bought from a hotel in Saravanampatti, Coimbatore, the night before.

Sanjeev, a Class II student at a private public school in Chinna Mettupalayam, lived with his family in Senthil Golden Gate Phase-I on Sankara College Road. On Thursday night, his family purchased biryani from a hotel located opposite Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT). The family, including Sanjeev, consumed the meal together.

Later that night, Sanjeev was seen playing with his family until midnight. However, when his father, Sathyaprabhu, attempted to wake him around 8 a.m. on Friday, he found the boy unresponsive. In a panic, the family rushed him to a private hospital, where doctors advised immediate transfer to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH). Unfortunately, doctors at CMCH declared the child brought dead.

Sanjeev’s body was sent for postmortem to determine the exact cause of death. The Saravanampatti police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Authorities are awaiting the autopsy report to confirm whether food poisoning or any other factor led to the boy’s sudden death.
