NAMAKKAL: Tensions flared at the Namakkal Government Medical College and Hospital on Saturday after at least 80 contract employees were abruptly dismissed for violating contract terms. The terminated staff staged a protest in front of the hospital, demanding that the contractor revoke the decision.
The workers, including 74 cleaning personnel and four security staff, were hired through Krystal Integrated Services Limited. According to official sources, the termination was due to multiple violations such as clocking out two hours early, taking unauthorized leave, disrupting routine work, and failing to mark digital attendance.
The contractor posted the reasons for dismissal on the hospital’s notice board. “They were breaching basic work rules and even venting frustration on patients by neglecting their needs,” said B Ramu, manager at Krystal Integrated Services Limited.
The protesting workers claimed they were removed without prior notice or an opportunity to explain. Police were deployed on the premises to prevent any escalation. After assurances that they could pursue legal recourse, the aggrieved staff called off the protest.
The incident has sparked debate about working conditions, accountability, and communication between contract workers and service providers in critical public institutions.
