A nine-year-old girl died after suddenly collapsing during playtime at a private school in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district, leaving her family and local community in deep shock.
The incident occurred around 7.48 am on February 23 at Gotan International School in Gotan town. The child, identified as Divya, a Class 5 student and daughter of Rajendra Bapedia from Talanpur, had arrived at school as usual.
With time remaining before the morning prayer assembly, several students were playing in the school ground. Divya was among them when she suddenly stumbled, fainted and fell to the ground.
Collapsed before assembly
School staff immediately rushed to assist her and informed her family. She was taken to the Government Hospital in Gotan, where doctors declared her brought dead.
According to doctors, there were no visible external injuries on her body. Preliminary medical assessment indicated suspected cardiac arrest as the likely cause of death.
The family declined a postmortem examination. After necessary formalities, the body was handed over to them.
School Director Ramkunwar Ola stated that Divya had attended school like any other day and was playing before the assembly when she unexpectedly collapsed.
Second tragedy for the family
The incident has been particularly devastating for the family, as Divya’s elder brother, Abhishek, reportedly died in a similar manner about four months ago. On September 9, 2025, he is said to have fainted while playing at home and was declared dead at hospital.
The loss of two children within such a short span has left relatives and residents of Talanpur in disbelief.
Medical experts note that certain congenital heart conditions can remain undetected in children and may surface suddenly without prior warning signs.
Authorities have not reported any suspicion of foul play.
