Lucknow – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) mobilised hundreds of workers today in a state-wide “halla bol” protest against what they described as an acute shortage of key fertilisers, including urea and DAP. Demonstrations were held at tehsil headquarters across Uttar Pradesh, and workers submitted memorandums to district authorities, blaming the Yogi Adityanath government for farmers’ plight.

Massive queues, mounting farmer distress

AAP alleged that farmers remain stranded after queuing for hours at cooperative centres, often returning empty-handed. Over 50 per cent of cooperative societies across the state are reportedly grappling with shortages of fertiliser essentials

Political backlash and AAP’s demands

Spearheaded by state in-charge and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, the protests were accompanied by a strong media campaign on X, targeting the state administration’s inability to ensure supply.

In their memorandum, AAP laid out five key demands:

  1. Immediate and ample fertiliser supplies

  • A crackdown on black-marketing and corrupt distribution

  • Transparency in supply chains

  • Accountability for negligent officials

  • A special assistance package for affected farmers

    Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi and Cooperative Minister JPS Rathore refuted claims of a shortage, asserting that the state maintains sufficient fertiliser stocks. They dismissed AAP’s protest, stating that supply chains remain intact.
