Pamba: The President of the Ayyappa Dharma Sena and an activist who leads the “Save Sabarimala” campaign, Rahul Easwar was detained by the Pamba police on Wednesday, October 17, afternoon.
Regarding the opening of the doors of the Sabarimala sanctum for the women devotees, there was a strong opposition by the orthodox groups, which believed that by doing so, the whole lineage of culture, practice and tradition will be disrupted.
The reporters were on their way for the reportage of the historic entry of women inside the Sabarimala sanctum. A mob in Nelikkal base camp, stopped the vehicles of the media, especially in which women were travelling.
According to the reports, around four women reporters were obstructed from the reportage and forced to turn back. Their equipment and vehicles were vandalised. They were also abused and manhandled.
Reacting to Easwar’s arrest, Deepa Vijayan, wife of Rahul Easwar said, “I’ve been tracking the event, and it is known that Easwar was arrested for not allowing the lady police personnel towards Sabarimala.”
