An Indian travel vlogger has captured a moving display of Afghan hospitality, with a viral video showing locals refusing to accept payment from him and repeatedly calling him a “mehmaan” — a guest.
The video, posted by travel creator Kailash Meena, is titled “Afghan Hospitality” with the caption “Why everything is free for Indians in Afghanistan.” In the clip, Kailash is seen enjoying a glass of freshly squeezed pomegranate juice at a street stall.
“India is our guest”
After finishing his drink, Kailash attempts to pay the vendor, but the man politely refuses.
“Mehmaan nahi, yeh aapka dhanda hai… paise lene padhenge (Not as a guest. This is your business. You must take the money),” Kailash insists.
The vendor, smiling warmly, continues to decline payment. Soon, another local approaches and explains that Afghans hold a deep affection for Indians.
“India mehmaan hai. Hindustan bohat achcha,” the men say — India is our guest. India is very good.
The gesture leaves Kailash visibly emotional. He hugs the vendor and several locals nearby, saying:
“Yeh hai Afghanistan ki mehmaan nawaazi… aap log bohat achche ho (This is Afghanistan’s hospitality. You people are very good).”
He adds that wherever one travels in Afghanistan, vendors often refuse payment from Indians.
Internet reacts with admiration
The video has drawn thousands of reactions from viewers praising the warmth and generosity of ordinary Afghans. Many commented that people on both sides continue to uphold bonds of goodwill beyond politics or borders.
