In a significant crackdown, two AIADMK functionaries arrested in a recent pub brawl in Nungambakkam have now been detained under the Goondas Act, following multiple fraud complaints that surfaced after their arrest.

Police identified the duo as D Ajayrogan (36), alias Ajay Vandayar, a businessman, and T Prasad (33), a party IT wing member. They were earlier taken into custody with three others—R Ganesh Kumar (42), G Dhanasekar (29), and Nagendra Sethupathi (33), a known history-sheeter—after the altercation.

Subsequent inquiries into Prasad’s background unearthed a broader job scam, leading to the arrest of police sub-inspector Manikumar and head constable Senthil Kumar, the latter of whom served as a personal security officer for a sitting MP. Authorities allege the two officers helped Prasad orchestrate fraudulent employment schemes.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, the police invoked the Goondas Act against a man named Daniel, who faces a string of serious charges, including kidnapping and sexual assault. Daniel was among seven arrested on May 29 for abducting and threatening Rajakumaran, an assistant director associated with filmmaker Suseenthiran.

The use of the stringent Goondas Act in both cases reflects intensified efforts by law enforcement to curb organized criminal activities and political impunity.
