Air India MD & CEO Campbell Wilson on Wednesday said that the preliminary report of the June 12 Ahmedabad crash found “nothing wrong” with the airline’s operations, aircraft, or existing practices

Speaking at the Aviation India 2025 Summit, Wilson said the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) released its interim report within a month of the tragedy.

“The interim report indicated that there was nothing with aircraft engines or practices that required changing,” he said. “Of course, we’re always looking at how we can keep improving and keep learning.”

Crash overview

An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, bound for London, crashed seconds after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 13, killing all 241 people on board.

According to the AAIB’s preliminary findings, fuel supply to both engines was cut off shortly after takeoff — though the cause behind the cutoff remains under investigation.

Airline’s response and compensation

Wilson said the crash was “absolutely devastating” for the airline and the families affected.

“We’ve had more than 600 people on the ground in Ahmedabad,” he said. “We’ve set up a trust through Tata Sons and provided ex-gratia payments to all families. We are now working through the final compensation.”

He reiterated that Air India is not part of the investigation, which is being led by the government, but is fully cooperating with the authorities.

“If there’s anything to learn from the final report, we will absolutely make sure that we do,” Wilson added. “Our focus right now is to help the affected families in every way possible.”

Safety and operations after the crash

Wilson said Air India had temporarily increased safety checks after the crash — both voluntarily and as a regulatory precaution — but has since returned to normal operations.

“We had deliberately put in additional checks, and that has now progressively gone back to a more normal level,” he said.
