An Air India flight (AI2744) arriving from Kochi experienced a runway excursion while landing at Mumbai airport on Monday, due to intense rainfall and slippery conditions.
The aircraft veered off the runway shortly after touchdown but managed to taxi safely to the parking bay, ensuring no injuries to passengers or crew.
The incident, which occurred amid heavy monsoon showers, prompted immediate response from airport authorities and the airline. “Passenger and crew safety is our top priority,” said an Air India spokesperson, confirming that the aircraft has been grounded for inspection and all required checks are underway.
According to officials, operations at Mumbai airport remained unaffected, though authorities are monitoring weather conditions closely to avoid further incidents.
The spokesperson added, “Flight AI2744, operating from Kochi to Mumbai on 21 July 2025, experienced a runway excursion due to weather conditions. All passengers and crew disembarked safely. The aircraft will undergo thorough technical checks before being cleared for further use.”
The episode highlights the operational challenges faced by airlines during monsoon, especially in metro airports like Mumbai, where visibility and surface traction can rapidly deteriorate due to heavy rains.
