Air Kerala is gearing up to strengthen regional aviation by launching new flight services connecting Kerala with Mysuru, Karnataka, by mid-2025. Announced by the airline’s chairman, Afi Ahmed, this move highlights the airline’s dedication to enhancing Mysuru’s tourism, culture, and aviation infrastructure.
The airline will operate ATR aircraft to connect Mysuru with select destinations in Kerala, making regional air travel more accessible. The decision follows extensive discussions among key stakeholders, including the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and local representatives.
Afi Ahmed emphasized the role of Air Kerala in boosting Mysuru’s tourism potential, citing attractions like Mysuru Palace and Chamundeshwari Temple. The region is expected to draw both domestic and international tourists.
MP Yaduveer Wadiyar highlighted the economic benefits of the new flight services, noting Mysuru’s cultural heritage and its global reputation as a yoga destination. Additionally, the initiative will feature the creation of an aviation academy in Mysuru, aimed at nurturing local talent and enhancing aviation infrastructure. The academy will include a state-of-the-art ATR-72-600 simulator for professional training.
Mysuru’s tourism and wellness offerings will be prominently promoted through collaborative marketing campaigns involving local industries and stakeholders.
In another development, Air Kerala also plans to make Kannur International Airport its primary operational hub. Starting in the second quarter of 2025, the airline will focus on domestic ATR turboprop operations before expanding to narrow-body aircraft. Air Kerala’s international expansion plans include destinations across Thailand, Malaysia, the UAE, and more.
