Margao: A four-year-old boy missed a fatal end for running on the railway tracks here on June 3 afternoon thanks to an alert loco pilot.
Suresh Kumar, the loco pilot of 70103 Down Pernem-Karwar DEMU applied the brakes right on time on seeing the boy running on the tracks between Margao and Balli railway stations, just a few from metres away.
After stopping the train, Suresh also picked up the boy crying for his parents and handed him over to the Balli railway station master, according to a Railways official.
The passengers were all praises for Suresh Kumar who not only saved a child’s life but also immediately continued the journey.
Later, the boy was handed over the boy to Cuncolim police by the railway authorities. It was not easy for the Cuncolim police to trace the boy’s parents, the natives of Bihar staying in Balli. After concerted efforts, the boy’s mother was found and her child handed over to her.
