In a bizarre sequence of events, an ambulance ferrying an injured biker to SSKM Hospital collided with another biker on Kolkata’s Second Hooghly Bridge around 3:45 pm Thursday. Ironically, both bikers ended up being transported to the same hospital in the same ambulance.

The first biker, Arpan Biswas (33) from Benaras Road, Howrah, had lost control of his bike on the bridge and fallen, suffering injuries. While being taken to the hospital, the ambulance struck Malay Kumar Maity (52) of Jagachha, leaving him with multiple injuries. Police from Hastings station later took custody of the ambulance and questioned the driver. Biswas was discharged after treatment, while Maity continues to receive care.

Adding to the city’s road chaos, two more accidents injured pedestrians. Around 10:45 am, Jaydeep Ghosh (50) of Garfa was hit by a truck near the RD Street-Rammohan Roy Street junction. He sustained head injuries and was admitted to NRS Medical College. In another incident, Prahlad Ranjit (50) was struck by a truck near the BT Road-PK Mukherjee Road crossing, injuring his chest. He is undergoing treatment at RG Kar Medical College.

Police have impounded the trucks involved in both incidents and detained the drivers.
