Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the significance of the Northeast in India, emphasizing the BJP-led Centre’s commitment to prioritizing the development of the hilly states. Shah, during his address at the 71st Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council in Shillong, underscored the government’s focus on the mantras of “Act East, Act Fast, and Act First.” He asserted that the last decade, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, witnessed unprecedented infrastructure development and successful conflict resolution in the northeastern region.

Shah acknowledged the groundwork laid during former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure, leading to the establishment of a dedicated Northeast ministry. He praised the present government’s proactive approach in implementing the principles of “Act East, Act Fast, and Act First,” making the last 10 years a golden period for the Northeast. Amit Shah, currently on a three-day visit to Assam and Meghalaya, received a traditional welcome upon his arrival in Shillong, including a ‘gayan and bayan’ performance.

During his visit to Meghalaya’s capital, Shah paid homage to the Headquarters Directorate General of the Assam Rifles, honoring the sacrifices made by the “Bravehearts.”
