New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to consult Opposition parties and facilitate a discussion in Parliament on the ongoing student protests linked to the NEET issue.
In a letter to the Speaker, Shah said the government was ready to answer questions and stressed that dialogue and discussion are essential to finding solutions in a democracy. He also expressed confidence in the democratic process.
Shah asks Speaker to bring both sides together
Shah’s request comes amid a standoff between the government and Opposition over a proposed parliamentary discussion on the NEET controversy.
The Home Minister has asked the Speaker to consult Opposition leaders and decide, through mutual agreement, how much time should be allocated for the debate. He has also indicated his willingness to remain present during the discussion and respond to questions.
Government says it is ready for questions
The government has maintained that it is prepared to discuss the concerns raised by students and answer questions surrounding the NEET examination and subsequent protests.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has also accused the Opposition of avoiding the debate, while saying the government remains ready to participate in a detailed discussion.
