Kuldeep Rai Sharma, the MP for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, was awarded the Sansad Ratna Award for the third year in a row on Saturday.

Awarding five MPs for their exceptional work, the event took place at New Maharashtra Sadan in New Delhi.

In addition to Andamans MP for the Congress, BJP’s Sukanta Majumdar and Sudheer Gupta, Shrikant Eknath Shinde of the Shiv Sena, and Amol Ramsing Kolhe of the NCP were also recognized with the award.

Sharma has brought up numerous issues for the benefit of the archipelago and its citizens, according to a source in the Andamans MP office. He has also shown a high degree of professionalism in carrying out his legislative duties, in addition to participating in parliamentary debates.

He brought up a number of issues in the House, including the hiring of nearly 10,000 government employees for the islands, the creation of an AIIMS for the Union territory, the deployment of specialist physicians on deputation to the archipelago, the inclusion of ultrasound technology in all PHCs, the provision of 200 square meters of land for all island residents who are landless, the establishment of a central university, and the installation of optical fibers from Puri to Diglipur, the source said.

According to the source, he also brought up the establishment of the Andaman and Nicobar Service Commission, the building of a bridge connecting Mithakhari and Minnie Bay, the construction of a second highway along the coastline, and the implementation of the Udaan scheme in the islands.

“I am deeply honored to receive the prestigious Sansad Ratna Award for the third consecutive year,” the MP said in a phone conversation with PTI. This honor is due not only to me but to every single islander who put their trust in me to speak for them in Parliament. This is not where the journey ends. I remain steadfast in my resolve to fight for a better future for all islanders, with the unwavering support of my people.”

“Over the past five years, I have relentlessly fought for the issues that matter most to our island community. Filling vacant posts, establishing AIIMS, improving healthcare access, and securing land rights are just a few of the countless areas where I have strived to make a difference. This award serves as a powerful validation of our collective efforts and reaffirms my commitment to continue serving you with even greater dedication,” he said.

“While this recognition is personally gratifying, it also carries a heavier responsibility. It compels me to push even harder, raise even more critical issues, and deliver even more concrete results for our beloved Andaman and Nicobar Islands,” he added.

The Sansad Ratna Award, considered one of the highest honours for parliamentarians, is bestowed upon those who exhibit exemplary dedication and competence in their roles.
