Meet S Nirmala, the reigning champion of the Andhra Pradesh intermediate board exams this year, who overcame immense challenges to achieve her academic goals.

Hailing from the serene village of Pedda Harivanam in the Adoni mandal of Kurnool district, Nirmala’s journey to success is nothing short of remarkable. Last year, she secured an impressive 537 on her SSC exam. However, her academic pursuits faced a daunting hurdle when her parents, burdened by poverty and tradition, contemplated marrying her off like her older sisters.

Undeterred by her family’s plans, Nirmala remained steadfast in her determination to pursue education. Seeking assistance, she reached out to local YSRCP politician Y Saiprasad Reddy during his “Gadapa Gadapaku Mana Prabhutvam” program last year.

Moved by Nirmala’s plight, Adoni MLA Y Saiprasad Reddy intervened, bringing her situation to the attention of district collector G Srujana. Thanks to their swift action, Nirmala was saved from the grips of an imminent child marriage.

Accepted into the Kasturba Gandhi Balikala Vidyalaya in Aspari by the district administration, Nirmala seized the opportunity with unwavering determination. Her efforts culminated in a spectacular achievement – topping the list of high scorers in this year’s intermediate exams.

In her interactions with the media, Nirmala revealed her aspirations to join the Indian Police Service (IPS), combatting the scourge of child marriage and advocating for young women with similar dreams.

Nirmala’s remarkable journey is a testament to the transformative power of education and the unwavering spirit of determination. According to Adoni legislator Y Saiprasad Reddy, her success exemplifies the commitment of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s administration to empower girls through education.
