High alert in Andhra Pradesh in view of cyclone

Amaravati : Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, issued a high alert for officials on Saturday due to the possibility of a cyclonic storm developing from low pressure over the Bay of Bengal.

The Chief Minister was advised that on December 4, the cyclone is probably going to cross the coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam and move north.

The Chief Minister stated that district collectors impacted by the cyclone and disaster management officials ought to be prepared to undertake essential rescue and relief actions to assist individuals and reinstate power lines and transportation infrastructure in impacted areas.

He instructed them to set up relief camps and relocate the impacted individuals from the coastal areas to safer locations while keeping adequate supplies of food, drink, and milk on hand.

In response to directives from the Chief Minister, the government provided relief measures totaling Rs 2 crore to the Tirupati district and Rs 1 crore to each of the following districts: Dr. BR Ambedkar Konaseema, SPSR Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, Krishna, West Godavari, and Kakinada.

There is a cyclone alert for Andhra Pradesh and the surrounding coasts of North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

As per the IMD, the center of the deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal was approximately 540 km southeast of Nellore, 650 km southeast of Bapatla, and 650 km southeast of Machilipatnam on December 2, at 0600 UTC.

Over the course of the next day, it is expected to strengthen into a cyclonic storm over the southwest Bay of Bengal. Around 0600 UTC on December 5, it is expected to move across the coast of south Andhra Pradesh between Nellore and Machilipatnam in the form of a cyclonic storm.

District collectors have been instructed by Chief Secretary K. S. Jawahar Reddy to be prepared for any situation that may arise from the cyclone.

Under the impact of the cyclone, heavy to very heavy rains are likely for next three days in Tirupati, Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, krishna, West Godavari, Konaseema, East Godavari, Kakinada and Anakapalli districts.

The Chief Secretary asked the district collectors to ensure that for the next three days fishermen do not venture into sea and to take steps to caution those who are already into the sea to return.
