Puttaparthi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday offered prayers at the historic Veerabhadra Temple at Lepakshi in Andhra Pradesh’s Sri Sathya Sai district.
The Prime Minister traveled to Puttaparthi from Delhi and then proceeded to Lepakshi, a prominent location in the Hindu epic Ramayana.
The enormous eagle Jatayu is said to have accompanied Goddess Sita to Lepakshi following her kidnapping by Ravan.
The prime minister was given an explanation by the priests about the temple’s significance.
He carried out a number of rites, chanted the “Shri Ram Jai Ram” bhajan, and listened to Telugu passages from the Ranganatha Ramayana.
The prime minister also saw a puppet performance that told the story of the Ramayana. He explored the old temple and looked at the handicrafts made by the Lepakshi people.
The Prime Minister’s visit to the location occurs one week before the Ayodhya Ram temple is dedicated.
The Prime Minister opened the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes & Narcotics (NACIN) new campus in Palasamudram, in the same district, following a visit to Lepakshi.
