West Bengal: BJP Member of Parliament Soumitra Khan has made a controversial statement by terming the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) protesters as “intellectual dogs” of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party.
Addressing the gathering at Basirhat on Monday, January 20, he said, “Some of the intellects are paid by Mamata Banerjee’s government to protest against CAA and NRC. They are ‘dogs’ of the TMC.”
Similarly, WB BJP president Dilip Ghosh, earlier today, had said, “The people who damage public property in the state of West Bengal must be shot. People who think my statement is unethical must apologize to those who were shot during the peaceful demonstration.”
It can be recalled that Ghosh had earlier spoken in support of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government’s decision to lathi charge and shoot at violent protesters. He had said that the same should be applied in West Bengal as well.
