Anti-Drug Activist’s Son Arrested for MDMA Possession: Father Stands Firm
A Facebook post by Vishnupuram Chandrasekharan, a leading anti-drug campaigner in Kerala, gained widespread attention on Thursday after his son was detained by the authorities for allegedly possessing a small quantity of the banned drug MDMA. Chandrasekharan, the head of the Vaikunda Swami Dharma Pracharana Sabha (VSDPS) representing the Nadar community in Kerala, expressed his resolute position despite the family connection.
Chandrasekharan’s older son, along with two others, was taken into custody on Tuesday for possessing approximately 0.11 grams of MDMA. They were charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act but were released on bail shortly after.
In his post, Chandrasekharan firmly stated that he would not intervene to protect his son. “Even if it’s my child, a wrongdoing is a wrongdoing. If he has broken the law, he must face the consequences,” he declared. He assured that there would be no interference in the case, affirming that the police had only carried out their duties.
Chandrasekharan disclosed that his son had been using drugs for six months, a fact he had not suspected before. Although personally impacted, he vowed to persist in his campaign against drug abuse, stressing the critical need to fight the issue in the state.
“This is the first such incident in my public life,” he shared, urging the citizens of Kerala to stay alert and safeguard their children against the growing drug menace.
Chandrasekharan called on both parents and authorities to be vigilant, warning about the dangers of substance abuse among the youth.
