TIRUCHY: A temporary teacher from Ariyalur district has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for allegedly sexually abusing a Class 5 student, with further allegations from other students as well.
The accused, Selvaraj (43), was employed at the Vankaram Panchayat Union Primary School and had been residing in Senthurai. According to initial reports, he had been allegedly targeting Class 4 and 5 students over a period of time.
The matter came to light when a group of students shared their traumatic experiences with their parents. In response, the concerned parents gathered at the school, locked its main gate, and demanded immediate action.
Thalavai police and officials from the Education Department arrived at the scene and launched an inquiry. A formal complaint was filed, and based on the findings, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Pocso Act.
However, by the time police arrived, Selvaraj had absconded. A search operation is underway to apprehend him.
