An Army officer died on Sunday after collapsing while on duty in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said.

The officer, a captain in the Indian Army, reportedly fell unconscious while deployed in the Naugam sector of the Handwara area in north Kashmir.

Airlifted to hospital, declared dead

According to officials, the officer was immediately airlifted to the 92 Base Hospital for emergency treatment. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Preliminary information suggests that the cause of death is believed to be cardiac arrest. Authorities have not yet released further personal details pending formal procedures and intimation to family members.

Proceedings initiated under BNSS

Officials stated that the body has been shifted to the Police Control Room hospital in Srinagar. Proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have been initiated to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Security forces in the region expressed condolences over the loss of the officer, who was serving in a sensitive operational area along the Line of Control.
