The IEDs were discovered concealed along the road connecting Nongdam and Itham villages, which are approximately 46 kilometers apart. Notably, the section of the road where the IEDs were found lies closer to Maphou dam and Nongdam village.

According to the defence spokesperson’s statement, the army detected the three IEDs during a routine area-domination and surveillance operation. Swift action was taken as army personnel cordoned off the area promptly.

Following this, a specialized bomb disposal squad was dispatched to the location. They successfully neutralized the IEDs, averting potential harm to the local population and preventing any loss of life or injury.

The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in Manipur, particularly amidst ethnic tensions between the Meiteis and Kuki tribes. Even a year after clashes erupted between these communities, normalcy remains elusive.

In response, security forces maintain vigilance, particularly in sensitive areas where the territories of these two communities converge, especially near the foothills surrounding the state capital, Imphal valley.
