An Indian Army jawan lost his life in a tragic road accident in Maharashtra’s Satara district just hours before the birth of his daughter, leaving the family and local community in deep mourning.

The deceased has been identified as Pramod Jadhav, a soldier with the Indian Army and a resident of Parli area in Satara. Jadhav was on paternity leave and had returned home for a few days as his wife was admitted to a local hospital for delivery.

According to officials, Jadhav was riding a two-wheeler when he met with a fatal road accident. He suffered severe injuries and succumbed before medical help could save him. Tragically, just a few hours after his death, his wife delivered a baby girl.

Funeral with military honours

Following the completion of medical and legal formalities, Jadhav’s funeral was held on Sunday with full military honours. In a deeply emotional scene, his wife—still recovering after childbirth—was brought from the hospital on a stretcher to attend the final rites.

She was accompanied by their newborn daughter, who was barely eight hours old. Visuals from the funeral showed the grieving wife reaching out towards her husband’s body, while a relative stood beside her holding the infant.

Community mourns untimely loss

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over Parli and surrounding areas of Satara, with residents expressing shock and sorrow over the untimely loss of a soldier who had come home to welcome a new life.

Locals and ex-servicemen paid tribute to Jadhav, remembering him as a disciplined and devoted soldier. Many also highlighted the irony and heartbreak of the tragedy, where joy and grief arrived almost simultaneously for the family.

Police have registered a case in connection with the accident and are investigating the circumstances that led to the mishap.
