Travel vlogger Jyoti Malhotra has been arrested for allegedly leaking sensitive information to Pakistani intelligence. Following her arrest, old travel videos—especially one from her 2024 trip to China—have gone viral again, reigniting public outrage.
The controversial clip, uploaded to YouTube in June 2024, shows Malhotra engaging in disruptive behavior during her travels in China. Among her actions were forcing a man to give up his window seat on a bullet train, hopping on a stranger’s scooter for a forced ride, commandeering a woman’s bicycle to ride on a motorway, boarding buses without paying fares, and complaining about the lack of English speakers in China.
At the time, her conduct drew criticism for being disrespectful and attention-seeking. The video is now resurfacing in light of her arrest, with many labeling her behavior as “trashy” and “embarrassing,” accusing her of tarnishing India’s global image.
Comments under the video on social media platforms like X have been scathing. One user remarked, “I thought she was just a tone-deaf YouTuber chasing views. Turns out she was betraying the country.” Another comment read, “She thought she was vlogging, but it was actually the beginning of her downfall.”
Malhotra, originally from Hisar, Haryana, is currently pursuing her first year of MA studies in Patiala. Authorities allege she maintained contact with a Pakistani national and was involved in sharing confidential information.
Investigations are ongoing, and the public backlash continues to mount.
