In a delightful and light-hearted moment, world chess champion D Gukesh was playfully teased by Aruna Anand, wife of the legendary Viswanathan Anand, during the pre-wedding celebrations of chess grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi and his fiancée, Nidhi Kataria.
The fun-filled event took place during the Tamil harvest festival, Pongal, where top Indian chess stars, including Anand and Gukesh, gathered at Gujrathi’s residence. The group was seen taking part in a playful game involving chess pieces and a water-filled utensil.
The viral video shows Gukesh being teased by Aruna Anand after a round of the game. She humorously remarked to her husband, Viswanathan Anand, “Anand, he is saying they are sharing the title,” referring to Gukesh’s world championship win. This remark led to an outburst of laughter from everyone present. When Gukesh jokingly replied, “But sharing the title is now the thing, no?” Anand responded, “If married couples have Armageddon, it doesn’t end well.”
The playful banter continued, with one guest humorously suggesting that Gukesh could also have a “marriage” on the same day. Aruna Anand, never missing a beat, quipped, “That (marriage) is okay. We can photoshop later also,” causing more laughter among the attendees.
The humorous exchange showcases the camaraderie and close-knit nature of the Indian chess community, further solidifying the light-hearted atmosphere of the event.
