Gangtok: Footballer-turned-politician Baichung Bhutia has announced a minimum income of Rs 90,000 to every family of five in Sikkim if his party is voted to power similar to that of Rahul Gandhi’s NYAY.

Rahul Gandhi had promised to give Rs 72,000 per year to the economically poor families of the country in his NYAY scheme.

Bhutia has promised the launch of ‘Sikkimey Saman Yojana” in 25 days if voted to power.

His party Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) called the scheme as “redistribution of Sikkim’s wealth” for the welfare of the people of the state.

Every Sikkimese person will be entitled to get Rs 1500 per month under this scheme.

Sikkim will be polling for Assembly as well as Lok Sabha in a single phase on April 11.

The scheme would include all the low earning population of the state including low earning government permanent staff.

The scheme would cost around Rs 9000 Crore to the government which is approximately 13 per cent of the 2018-19 budget of the state.

“The HSP does not promise just the minimum income but wants to give a new direction to the social, economic and political life of the people of Sikkim. That is why the party has chosen to tap people from the low-income group like drivers, mechanics, farmers and unemployed people for this election,” said HSP President Bina Basnett.
