Bakery shut after dead millipede found in parippuvada
THRISSUR: The ‘Eats and Treats’ bakery in Puthukkad was sealed by health authorities on Monday after a dead millipede was discovered inside a parippuvada (fried lentil snack) sold from the premises. The incident occurred near the Puthukkad signal junction and came to light when employees of Kerala Bank purchased snacks from the bakery and found the insect while eating.
They immediately informed the Health Department, prompting a swift inspection led by Health Inspector R Rajesh. The team found multiple violations, including the absence of a valid license from the local panchayat. Of the four staff members at the bakery, only one had a valid health card.
Additionally, food was reportedly being prepared under unhygienic conditions, both during the day and at night. The bakery was promptly ordered to close its operations.
The inspection team comprised Junior Health Inspectors Abdul Razak and Nimmi, along with Panchayat Health Inspector K G Geethu Priya.
This incident has raised concerns about food safety standards in local eateries and the need for stricter enforcement of health regulations.
