In light of recent allegations of corruption in the judiciary, including the discovery of cash at the residence of Justice Yashwant Verma, the Advocates Association Bangalore (AAB) has passed a resolution urging the Chief Justice of the High Court of Karnataka to write to the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. The request calls for an investigation into the claims made in the House about judges potentially being honey-trapped.

The resolution was passed during a special general body meeting held on Monday, where members voiced concern over corruption within the judicial system. As part of their action, the AAB announced plans to organize a candlelight vigil to highlight the issue. The vigil, scheduled for an upcoming date, aims to send a strong message that action must be taken to address the growing concerns and to “bring light to the judiciary.” It also serves as a call for the Chief Justice of India to take immediate measures to enhance accountability and administration within the Karnataka judiciary.

Furthermore, the AAB has called for the transfer of any higher judiciary judges accused of corruption to other high courts. They argue that such transfers would help ensure fairness and transparency in the judicial process. The association also proposed that the Karnataka High Court collegium should consist solely of Karnataka high court judges to better represent the state in judicial decisions.

The AAB expressed frustration with the current collegium system, claiming it is inefficient and has led to instances of nepotism, undermining public trust in the judiciary. Their resolution reflects growing concerns within the legal community about the need for systemic reforms to restore integrity and accountability within the judiciary.
