A special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Bengaluru sentenced Jahidul Islam, a Bangladeshi national, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for his involvement in promoting terrorist activities in India. Islam was associated with the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and played a role in raising funds, procuring ammunition, and plotting terrorist attacks, including the 2014 Burdwan blast and the 2018 Bodhgaya blast.

In addition to the sentence, Islam was fined Rs 57,000 for crimes related to robbery, conspiracy, and the procurement of ammunition. This conviction marks the 11th in related cases. NIA’s investigation uncovered that Islam had crossed into India illegally in 2014 and conspired to recruit young men for JMB’s activities. The probe also linked him to multiple robberies in Bengaluru, which funded terrorist operations.

Efforts to apprehend the absconding accomplices, including JMB’s head Salauddin Salehin, continue.
