Bharat Taxi, a driver-owned mobility cooperative launched earlier this year, has expanded to more than 35 lakh users and over six lakh drivers across India, according to the company.

The platform, launched on February 5 by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, operates on a zero-commission model where drivers are treated as stakeholders rather than employees.

The company said the cooperative model has helped drivers increase their monthly income by nearly 25 to 30 per cent while passengers are paying around 15 per cent lower fares because of stable pricing.

Drivers receive full ride earnings

Bharat Taxi Chairman and Amul Managing Director Jayen Mehta said the platform was created to address concerns over high commission charges and fluctuating driver earnings under traditional ride aggregator systems.

According to the company, drivers receive 100 per cent of ride payments directly into their bank accounts without corporate deductions or intermediaries.

Several drivers associated with the platform claimed the cooperative model offered better earnings, lower operational pressure and a stronger sense of ownership compared to other app-based transport services.

The company said more than one lakh drivers on the platform are currently based in Gujarat.

Expansion and technology focus

After expanding services in Ahmedabad and Surat, Bharat Taxi is now preparing to launch operations in Vadodara as part of its next phase of growth.

The company also said it is strengthening grassroots outreach through direct engagement at airports, housing societies and IT parks.

Bharat Taxi has integrated its SOS safety system with Gujarat Police and introduced dedicated connectivity routes for pilgrimage destinations such as Somnath and Dwarka.

The platform additionally claimed to have trained over 10,000 drivers in digital literacy, technology handling and soft skills to improve passenger experience.
