A teenage girl died in Bihar’s Saran district after she was allegedly pushed into a well by a man who had reportedly befriended her through social media, police officials said.

The main accused, identified as Yuvraj Manjhi, has been arrested. Police have also booked four other individuals in connection with the case.

Accused reportedly knew victim through social media

According to police, Manjhi had developed contact with the girl through Instagram and claimed to have been friends with her online.

During questioning, the accused reportedly admitted that he was present at the scene when the incident occurred.

Investigators are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the case.

Postmortem confirms cause of death

Police said the postmortem report confirmed that the cause of death was asphyxia due to drowning.

Officials also clarified that allegations circulating on social media regarding other claims in the case were not supported by evidence found during the investigation.

Authorities stated that the investigation is ongoing to determine the full sequence of events and the possible involvement of others named in the complaint.
